Sex and powerlessness

Filed under: Uncategorized — gijanefinances @ 5:57 pm

I love this article: The sexual cost of female success. I think a lot of women will have a problem accepting this article, but I believe it to be true.  Sex is given to freely to men by women these days in this “hook-up culture.”

I really like this:

Now, let’s say sex was the highest possible cost. You’d see women never having sex with anyone until a man commits to marry her — that’s the most expensive thing you can charge. But that’s just not the way the world is today, and that’s not the way the world ever was — the price of sex has never been that high, but it was certainly higher than it is today. All he has to do is maybe buy her dinner and text her.

I’ve known guys who truly expect sex if they buy you dinner…very true.  It is scary how women think that easy sex is a road to commitment.  Unfortunately, unless she tries to trap him by becoming pregnant, he will only want status quo.  Of course, some “hook-ups” can lead to marriage.  Maybe the stars aligned…I do not know.   I do find the guys who only want sex and not a relationship are easily weeded out if you are celibate or abstain.

Very interesting read.

  1. I’m someone who considers herself a strong supporter of women’s rights (Especially negotiating for what you are worth), and I think the article rings true.

My friends and even my sister are having trouble right now with guys. Some do the one night stand hookup, whereas my sister is having trouble trying to distinguish between sex, a relationship and what comes of it. (she still hasn’t had sex with him but is CONFUSED when he doesn’t try to have sex with her, but tries to take it slow.. CONFUSED!!!)

There was a Sex and a City episode on this, where Carrie tries to get Aidan to have sex with her by the third date and she says: “Are we sluts? and is romance so dead we can’t wait to have sex?”

    Interesting stuff.

Personally, I don’t do those one-night stand hookup things. They’ve always made me think that it just isn’t worth it, especially with the risks involved (health and STDs for instance)

  2. Yep, you have a really good head on your shoulders. I find that since I have a strong father in my life, I am not desperately seeking a man’s affection. It is nice to have, but I rather have quality than quantity.
